Praying the Rosary

Holding the Crucifix, say the Apostles' Creed. On the first bead, say an Our Father. Say one Hail Mary on each of the next three beads. For each of the five decades, announce the Mystery (perhaps followed by a brief reading from Scripture) then say the Our Father.

It is traditional to pray different mysteries each day: the Glorious Mysteries on Sundays and Wednesdays, the Joyful Mysteries on Mondays and Saturdays, the Sorrowful Mysteries on Tuesdays and Fridays, and the new Luminous Mysteries on Thursdays.

The Mysteries of the Rosary

Each mystery leads us to ponder very specific events in the lives of Jesus and Mary and the lessons they hold for our own lives today. There were originally three sets of mysteries: the Joyful Mysteries, the Sorrowful Mysteries, and the Glorious Mysteries.

This first rosary was prayed as we do today, a person would pass their fingers over each bead and say a prayer, usually the “Our Father”. The “Hail Mary” as we know it wasn't even around at that time. The Hail Mary owes its origin to the rosary.

Consider blessing the Rosary before wearing it, if desired. The Rosary is a holy item and should be handled with reverence. Wear the Rosary with pride and reverence, knowing it reminds you of your Catholic faith.

There is No Right or Wrong Way to Pray at Adoration.

Answer: A traditional practice is praying in a counter-clockwise direction, but there's no official Church rule on the matter, so be at peace in praying in either direction. In addition, one need not even use a rosary when praying the rosary. For instance, you can count the prayers on your fingers.

The first contains joyful mysteries (recited on Mondays and Saturdays); the second, the mysteries of light (Thursdays); the third, the sorrowful mysteries (Tuesdays and Fridays); and the fourth, the glorious mysteries (Wednesdays and Sundays).

For the nine days after the funeral, family members will light candles in their local church to offer prayers for the soul of the dead person and recite the rosary each night.

According to his suggestion, the four sets of mysteries might be prayed on the following days: the Joyful Mysteries on Monday and Saturday, the Sorrowful Mysteries on Tuesday and Friday, the Glorious Mysteries on Wednesday and Sunday, and the Luminous Mysteries on Thursday.

The mysteries are prayed on specific days of the week; with the addition of the Luminous Mysteries on Thursday, the others are the Glorious on Sunday and Wednesday, the Joyful on Monday and Saturday, and the Sorrowful on Tuesday and Friday.

Since the pope merely recommended the Luminous Mysteries, it's fine to leave them out. That being said, here are some reasons why it's beneficial to include the Luminous Mysteries in your Rosary.
