Review on The Orange Tree (2025)

Set in Midlands countryside a few minutes’ drive from the NEC, Solihull and Warwick, The Orange Tree is one of the new breed of country pubs that are offering brasserie-style food in upbeat surroundings.

The lion’s share of the space is given over to eating, although there are a few more intimate areas that can be used for chatting and drinking. Modern wood flooring and contemporary furnishings set the mood in the main dining room, and the food matches the décor with a fashionable nod to the Mediterranean and beyond. The extensive menu features prime steaks, classic salads as well as succulent seafood.

    Puff or shortcrust ?

    I enjoyed the visit to this pub very much, apart from the waitress not not knowing what short crust pastry is. My game pie came with puff when I specifically asked before ordering if the pastry was short crust. A friend asked to have fish cakes as a main and I was astounded at the prices charged for 2 fish cakes and nothing else! £15.50.

CHEESES
Selection of 3 cheeses for 8.95
Brillat Savarin: A pasteurised cow`s milk cheese, with additional cream being added during the cheese making process, creating a rich and velvety texture. Savarin is infused with truffles.
Dolcelatte: Means “sweet milk” a blue veined Italian soft cheese. The maturation involves about two to three months with sweet and a bit milder taste. Suitable for vegetarians
Barolo: Barolo is an ancient Italian mountain cheese made from a mix of Sheep’s and Goat’s milk. The hard cheese is packed in grape must, from the production of Barolo wine infusing the cheese with an amazing flavour.
Taleggio. Is a semi-soft washed rind, Italian cheese. The cheese has a thin crust and a strong aroma but is mild with an unusual fruity tang.
