This paper aims to evaluate the contribution quality of table tennis matches comprehensively and explore the ranking characteristics of evaluation results and the rationality of grading. Through the application of the documentation method, videos, Technique for Order Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (TOPSIS) and Rank Sum Ratio (RSR), the contribution quality evaluation index system of table tennis matches was established. After then, the technical and tactical performances of 38 matches between H (anonymous), who is currently highly concerned and active in the international table tennis world from 2018 to 2020 were comprehensively evaluated. According to research results, H had 8 matches with the Ci value > 0.5 in serve rounds, 4 with the Ci value > 0.5 in receive rounds, and 5 with the RSR value > 0.6 in the comprehensive strength. These findings were generally consistent with the final match results. Furthermore, Pearson Correlation showed that the three indicators were significantly correlated with competition performance (CP) (P < 0.01). Each race could be divided into four grades, and there was a very significant difference among them by variance test (F = 60.281, P < 0.01). Meanwhile, SNK pairwise comparison between four grades had statistical significance (P < 0.05). Therefore, researchers could conclude that the combination of TOPSIS and RSR could objectively and accurately reflect the contribution quality of table tennis matches. This meth...

BACKGROUND: Table tennis is considered as a reaction sport, in which reaction speed is the key factor of sports performance. However, in addition to the quality of sensory (or cognitive) functions, it also requires a rapid motor response. Reactive agility is one of the most important qualities of table tennis performance. It comprises both sensory and motor components. Therefore, the aim of this study was to find the relationship between reactive agility performance and reaction speed (sensory part), sprint and change of direction speed, and muscle strength parameters (motor part) and thus to identify determinants of reactive agility in table tennis players. METHODS: Fifteen male competitive table tennis players (26.3 ± 4.0 years, 179.4 ± 6.0 cm, 77.2 ± 6.4 kg) performed the Reactive Agility Test (RAT), three reaction time tests (simple and choice reaction, reaction to four visual stimuli), sprint for 5 m, 505 Agility test, countermovement and drop jumps. RESULTS: Pearson correlation coefficient revealed a significant relationship between RAT performance and reaction time to four visual stimuli (r = 0.801, p < 0.001). Nonsignificant, but the medium correlation was found between RAT performance and choice reaction time (r = 0.404) and decision-making time, which was calculated as a difference between choice and simple reaction time (r = 0.410). These results showed that reactive agility is determined by the cognitive component (reflected by the reaction time) in table tenni...

Table tennis involves adoption of the semi-flexed knee and asymmetrical torsional trunk movements creating rotational torques on the knee joint which may predispose players to osteoarthritis (OA) of the knee. This study aims to compare radiographic signs of knee OA and associated functional levels in ex-elite male table tennis players and control subjects. Study participants were 22 ex-elite male table tennis players (mean age 56.64 ± 5.17 years) with 10 years of involvement at the professional level and 22 non-athletic males (mean age 55.63 ± 4.08 years) recruited from the general population. A set of three radiographs taken from each knee were evaluated by an experienced radiologist using the Kellgren and Lawrence (KL) scale (0-4) to determine radiographic levels of OA severity. The intercondylar distance was taken as a measure of lower limb angulation. Participants also completed the pain, stiffness, and physical function categories of the Western Ontario and McMaster University Osteoarthritis Index (WOMAC) 3.1 questionnaire. The results showed 78.3% of the ex-elite table tennis players and 36.3% of controls had varying signs of radiographic knee OA with a significant difference in the prevalence levels of definite radiographic OA (KL scale > 2) found between the two groups (P ≤ 0.001). Based on the WOMAC scores, 68.2% of the ex-elite table tennis players reported symptoms of knee pain compared with 27.3% of the controls (p = 0.02) though no significant differences were...

This study aimed to determine the correlation between interlimb asymmetries and physical performance metrics in adolescent female tennis players. Methods: Twenty-five female tennis players (age: 13.29 ± 0.98 years; weight: 52.52 ± 7.31 kg; height: 162.91 ± 6.02 cm) consented to participate in this study. Their performance was evaluated using various variables, including bilateral and unilateral countermovement jump (CMJ), bilateral and unilateral horizontal jump (HJ), 180° change of direction (180COD) conducted with both the right and left legs, and a 20 m sprint. The systematic bias was evaluated by one-way repeated measure analysis of variance, Pearson’s correlation test for relationships between variables, and the kappa coefficient for consistency in the asymmetrical direction. Results: Significant relationships were found between CMJ asymmetry and the variables HJR (r = −0.47) and HJL (r = −0.44). In addition, significant relationships were found between HJ asymmetry and the variables CMJR (r = −0.60) and CMJL (r = −0.54), HJR (r = −0.64), HJL (r = −0.67), CMJ (r = −0.55), and HJ (r = −0.52). Conclusion: Jumping tests are important indicators of performance loss in female tennis players. In addition, no significant correlation was found between the 180COD and performance tests, suggesting that asymmetries in COD do not affect jump performance or speed. Based on these results, it is recommended to integrate individualized programs for each athlete to reduce asymmetries.

e. The purpose of this study was to determine the influence of lower limb lean muscle mass (LMM) asymmetry on countermovement jump (CMJ) performance and kinetic asymmetry during both eccentric and concentric CMJ phases. Seventy-four American football players (age, 23.0 ± 0.9 years; height, 1.86 ± 0.07 m; mass, 104.9 ± 21.6 kg; lean body mass, 88.7 ± 12.5 kg) training for the 2024 National Football League draft underwent body composition assessment using an InBody 270 bioelectrical impedance analyzer that yielded right and left leg LMM in kg. Subjects then performed 3 CMJs on dual uniaxial force plates that allowed for the calculation of jump height (JH), reactive strength index modified (RSImod), and interlimb percentage asymmetry of peak force and impulse for eccentric and concentric phases. A paired t-test and Pearson Product-moment Correlation Coefficients calculated the difference between left and right LMM and the associations between the symmetry variables, respectively, p ≤ 0.05. Right and left leg LMM were significantly different (t(73) = 3.772, p ≤ 0.001). However, no significant relationships were found between lower limb LMM asymmetry (0.67 ± 0.67%) and any asymmetry in CMJ eccentric peak force (4.77 ± 3.75%), r(72) = 0.001, p = 0.954; eccentric deceleration impulse (5.23 ± 4.36%), r(72) = 0.158, p = 0.180; concentric peak force (2.99 ± 2.54%), r(72) = −0.70, p = 0.553; concentric impulse (3.06 ± 2.97%), r(72) = 111, p = 0.347; JH (41.8 ± 7.3 cm), r(72) = −0.205, p...
