Enrich Your Coffee Experience With Coffee Martini (4 Recipes) (2024)

We
generally don’t associate coffee with alcohol, except when making a co*cktail
out of it. But otherwise, it just seems weird, right? After all, coffee is
supposed to set your mind straight and fill you up with energy for the day.
Alcohol doesn’t seem to be an excellent addition to that equation.

Thankfully coffee martinis aren’t supposed to keep you
awake during the day. Instead, they should be used as a starter for a night of
drinking. And trust us when we say that they do this job insanely well.

What is a Coffee Martini?

There are a lot of recipes, of course, but if we want to
look at the basics, then it’s pretty simple. The two ingredients are coffee and
gin/vodka. In most cases, the ratio doesn’t even really matter; you can mix
them as you like, which is why many people like coffee martinis. They can fit
the taste of anyone and have a huge variety.

But these ingredients still should remain within certain boundaries. For example, the coffee should be fresh and still hot. It doesn’t matter if you used instant coffee or brewed yourself a cup from expensive Arabica beans, as long as it’s still coffee. But the freshness is what gives the drink that special taste, and it is why you shouldn’t use cold coffee (not even if it’s fresh and you chilled it). Although, most people prefer to use espresso shots as they can be diluted with the ice, and it won’t end up being as watery. And, of course, the vodka or gin should be of high quality as always. If you use something that was specifically made for teens to get wasted easily in a cheap way, then you won’t have a good time with your coffee martini. But you should also not get infused beverages. After all, you want the coffee to be the main thing.

Fun Facts About the Coffee Martini

The most exciting part about this drink is the fun facts that are about its history! They aren’t that memorable, nor helpful for current situations, but they can certainly explain some things about the way we drink a coffee martini

1. James Bond made martinis famous

It was originally considered a strong liquor drink, which is why many people preferred anything but martinis. That’s when the famous spy came along and introduced the world to the wonders of it.

2. Weak liquors and coffee were not common ingredients

People used to drink martinis one particular way, and that was it. They didn’t consider making martinis lighter, as nobody drank them anyway. But when James Bond appeared, people suddenly took an interest, and it turned out to be that martinis aren’t that bad after all. However, many people needed something to dilute the drink with. After all, it is mostly hard liquor, and those who weren’t used to it quickly backed out, which is why coffee suddenly became a common ingredient.

3. It is the invention of a regular bartender

Dick Bradsell, a British guru, was working the bar when a young model came up to him. Her request was simple: “wake me up and f*** me up.” A bit obscene, but Bradsell got the message and quickly got to work. What he came up with was a mix of vodka, fresh espresso, coffee liqueur, and sugar. It was a bittersweet and addicting drink, which is why it quickly became popular.

Coffee Martini Recipes

After all, this is what you are here for… To learn about the best coffee martini recipes that man (or woman, duh) could think of!

Optional:

You can grab a little bit of sugar and some finely ground coffee to decorate your drink. Sprinkle them on a plate, mix well and dip the wet rim of the glass in it. This will result in an awesome look that you will love to serve to your friends.

  • 1.5 ounces of Irish cream liquor
  • 1.5 ounces of Kahlua
  • 1 ounce of simple syrup

But honestly, our favorite way to do it is by combining these two! It makes the perfect contrast. Just make sure you completely cover the rim and don’t leave any empty spots because that can ruin the look.

But you can garnish it with whipped cream if you are into that. But it’s best if you only use a little bit, as the fattiness of it can quickly overtake the drink. You can also but white chocolate shavings on top or even whole coffee beans.
